What is a glass holder and what is it for?
The glass holder is attached to the edge of the glass door and is used for mounting other fittings. Glass holders are usually made of metal and consist of two halves. When tightening the screws, the clamp compresses the glass sheet, securely fixing it, which allows you to install additional components of the door system.
How to adjust the glass holder for a shower door?
Important: adjusting the glass door should not be done alone - the glass panel is heavy and injury may occur if it falls. (If the shower door is made of a different material, the adjustment is made based on the design of the glass holder of this model.)
1. The glass shower door is skewed and not perpendicular to the floor.
A. This problem most often occurs due to damage to the internal mechanism of the glass holder or displacement of the glass at the point of attachment to the wall.
B. It is necessary to check all the clamp screws: if any are found loose, align the position of the glass holder and tighten the screws.
B. If all the screws are tightened, but the misalignment remains, the internal spring structure of the glass holder is likely damaged and needs to be replaced. (This situation rarely occurs, but is possible when internal elements are welded.)
2. The glass shower door sagged, maintaining a vertical position
A. The reason is aging of the sealing gaskets between the glass holder and the glass or a shift in the position of the glass at the wall mounting point.
B. When the gaskets wear out, they should be replaced with new ones.
How to install glass door clamps?
1. Layout and positioning
Assemble a set of fixed glass and a movable glass door, align them according to the same markings. In accordance with the design and installation documentation, draw marking lines for the glass door and determine the position of the door frame.
2. Installation of the upper limit groove of the box
The width of the restrictive groove should exceed the thickness of the glass by 2–4 mm, the depth of the groove should be from 10 to 20 mm. During installation, first, the edges of two metal decorative overlays are installed along the marking line, then the upper limiting groove of the door frame is mounted along the edge line. The depth of the groove is adjusted using adhesive pads inside the groove.
3. Installation of lower support bracket with metal trim
Secure the wooden block to the floor, then use universal glue to glue the metal decorative trim to the block. When using an aluminum square profile, it is attached to the box stand on an aluminum corner, or with self-tapping screws to wooden mortgages recessed into the floor.
4. Installation of vertical pillars of the door frame
Install a wooden block of the stand along the center line of the marking, then use plywood to form the profile and position of the box stand, and then cover it with a metal decorative trim. The joints of the decorative trim are located on both sides of the glass installation location in the doorway.
5. Installation of glass sheet
Using vacuum suction cups, securely grasp the thick glass sheet and lift it to the installation position. First, the upper part of the glass is inserted into the restrictive groove of the upper part of the box, then the lower part is installed on the support bracket.
6. Glass fixation
Nail two small wooden beads on the inside and outside of the wooden block of the lower support bracket to secure the thick glass in the doorway. Coat the beads with universal glue, then glue the metal decorative trim to them.
7. Sealing with silicone sealant
Apply silicone sealant to the upper limit groove, on both sides of the lower groove, and also in the gaps between the thick glass and the frame posts. Remove excess sealant with a special tool.
8. Docking of glass panels
If the fixed part of the glass door is large and requires joining, the width of the butt seam should be 2–3 mm, and the edges of the glass panels should be chamfered.
